Facebook Status RSS Feeds For All - Wonder Screenshot Tour

Facebook Status RSS Feeds have given me rather a headache over the last couple of months. For whatever reason they have been very well hidden by the Facebook elves to make it as difficult as possible to subscribe to them. Okay, I could live with not having one, while others flaunted them like some wispy undergarment blowing in the breeze, but it still made me feel somehow inferior. That’s why I wrote my earlier post Are You A Facebook RSS Leper? as a cry for help.

Getting my Facebook status feed became a minor obsession when I decided that it would be a nice idea to import my status messages from my Facebook profile and into my Jaiku stream. The beauty of Jaiku for me is its ability to bring in RSS from your host of other social media services - Twitter, Tumblr, Flickr, blogs etc. - and gather them into a single place.

But Facebook was resistant.

What made it worse was the fact that I knew people were enjoying the ability to grab a feed for their Facebook status and take it away to do what they would with it - the folks at Design Meme told me so. But for me, no dice.

Well finally there is a happy ending, care of the wonders of blog comments. Special thanks go to the mysterious dan-o, who has revealed the esoteric secret of how to go about activating your Facebook Status Feed. So here, courtesy of Skitch, is a quick screenshot tour of what you need to do to seek it out:

Many thanks to the wonderful dan-o for making my day.

Oh, and once you have that feed handy, you might want to take a look at this rather nifty way to filter your status messages using Yahoo Pipes, care of Internet Duct Tape. This means that you can sheer off the excess baggage of your name when you export to Twitter/Jaiku.

I recently discovered this blog. I’ve had a similiar idea to your rewriting the ten commandments for some time now.
